Television Pitches

19 03 2012

With all the re-makes and re-boots coming out lately it seems that the world is running out of novel ideas.  I thought I’d throw my hat in the ring and share with my readership a few pitches I’ve come up with for television series that I think would be very interesting and entertaining:

  • Knight Writer – Self-made gazillionaire and famous author Winston Knight rescues hack writer Michael Short after a near fatal accident involving a calligraphy pen, giving him a new identity and  a new name: Michael Knight.  From his death-bed, Winston chooses Michael to be the primary ghost writer of his hundreds of unfinished novels.  To help Michael in his work is the Winston Industries Two Thousand (WITT), a heavily modified Bic pen with numerous features including an extremely durable shaft and grip controlled by a computer with artificial intelligence.  Michael and WITT team up to finish Winston’s novels and along the way discover that the high-stakes thrillers aren’t entirely fiction.
  • The Books of Hazard“The Booker Boys”, Beau and Lucas Booker live in a rural part of the fictional Hazzard County, West Virginia with their attractive cousin Daisy and their wise old Uncle Jesse.  They race around in their customized 1999 Dodge Neon, christened The General Sherman, avoiding corrupt county librarian Ulysses Grant “Boss” Dogear and his inept archivist Ross “Copey” Coltrane.  Beau and Lucas had previously been banished from the county library on trumped up charges of overdue library books; in reality they had uncovered “Boss” Dogear’s plagiarism ring.  Without hard proof, the Booker brothers must secretly investigate Dogear’s operation.
  • The Big Blog Theory – The show is centered on five characters: roommates Lenny Hofstettler and Shelton Grouper, two science fiction authors who contribute to the Geek Fancy Blog; Nickie, a blonde waitress and aspiring actress who lives across the hall; and Lenny and Shelton’s equally geeky and socially awkward friends and co-workers comic book artist Howie Horowitz and geek culture podcaster Raji Cotterappeli. The geekiness and intellect of the four guys is contrasted for comic effect with Nickie’s social skills and common sense.
  • Jeep Script Nine – The show centers on a warehouse in Madagascar that is bought by a television producer Benji Siskel and turned into the production headquarters for his Jeep centered reality television program.  Siskel and the star of the show, script writer Brian O’Miles work together with a large ensemble of eclectic personalities in order to successfully produce their show, Jeep Trek.  To make matters more interesting, the production company must deal with the warehouse’s previous occupants: a troop of mischievous lemurs who are always popping up at the most inopportune times.
